Lowry held the Cody Louk Invitational on December 17 and there was a total of 20 teams that showed up to wrestle from all over Nevada and parts of California and even Oregon. Some teams had quite the span of wrestlers attending and yet some only traveled with a handful.

Freshman wrestler Blake Hillyer was confident going into the tournament.

He said, “We’re going to have some challenges but if we work hard and keep our heads we’ll win this.”

The Lowry JV had two teams participating in the tournament, Lowry Gold and Lowry Blue. The varsity was in Reno at the time participating in the Reno Tournament of Champions. Also, Fernley had two teams attending the meet. The two-day tournament had some intense matches that showed some Lowry wrestlers had the talent needed to obtain a placing position in the meet. The Lowry wrestlers that placed were:

106 lbs. Kevin Blanco, freshman, 2nd
120 lbs. Troy Hardy, sophomore, 6th
145 lbs. Blake Duncan, freshman, 5th
182 lbs. Chase Young, senior, 6th
285 lbs. + (Heavy weight) Tytin Johnson, sophomore, 5th
285 lbs. + (Heavy weight) Luis Cardenas, freshman, 6th

The top placing teams were: 1st Fernley, 2nd North Valleys, 3rd Yerington, and 4th Battle Mountain.

Although Lowry had a few placing wrestlers, neither of Lowry’s teams placed in the top half of the tournament, but they have made a promise to work harder and come back stronger.

“If we keep doing what were what were doing and keep practicing hard we will go to state,” said Kelvin Meza.
