Lowry swim competes at Zone

Lowry High School swim team competed at zone on May 14 and 15.

Fourteen students qualified to go to Zone: McKenzie Gray, Alex “AJ” Jackson, Johana Christensen, Jessie Pate, Tori Echeverria, Andrew Stephen, Tysom Shurtliff, Michael Drake, Moriah Avalos, Kinzie McClintick, Amaya Drake, Jillian Pfarr, Olivia Snow, and Carlos Esparza.

McKenzie Gray, a senior, competed in the 200-yard freestyle and placed 14th with a time of 2:10.06. She also placed 9th in the 100-yard butterfly in the preliminaries with a time of 1:09.02. In the finals, she placed 15th in the 200-yard free and 10th in the 100-yard fly.

AJ, a freshman, competed in the 200-yard IM and finished 23rd, he also competed in the 500-yard freestyle and finished 21st in the preliminaries. In the finals, he competed in the 400-yard freestyle relay where his team finished 13th.

Johana Christensen, a sophomore, competed in the 50-yard free and the 100-yard free in the preliminaries placing 5th and 6th. In the finals, Johana took 7th in both the 50 and the 100-yard freestyle.

Jessie Pate, a sophomore, competed in the 200-yard freestyle and the 50-yard free taking 12th and 19th in the preliminaries. In the finals, Jessie competed in the 200-yard free relay, his team taking 8th and the 200-yard freestyle winning 13th place.

Tori Echeverria, a freshman, competed in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM she placed 11th and 12th in the preliminaries. In the finals, Tori competed in the 200-yard free relay, 100-yard backstroke, and the 200-yard IM placing 6th, 12th, and 12th.

Andrew Stephen, a senior, competed in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly placing 3rd and 2nd in preliminaries. In the finals, Andrew placed 3rd in the 50 free with a time of 22.92. He also placed 5th in the 100-yard fly and 8th in the 200-yard free relay.

Tysom Shurtliff, a junior, competed in the 100-yard free and the 100-yard backstroke placing 14th and 19th in the preliminaries. In the finals, he took 14th in the 100-yard free and 8th in the 200-yard free relay.

Michael Drake, a freshman, competed in the 100-yard breaststroke and in the 100-yard freestyle placing 12th and 15th in the preliminaries. In the finals, Michael took 8th in the 200-yard free relay and 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Moriah Avalos, junior, competed in the 100-yard breaststroke placing 26th in the preliminaries. In the finals, Moriah placed 11th in the 400-yard free relay and 15th in the 200-yard medley relay.

Kinzie McClintick, sophomore, competed in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly placing 23rd and 25th in preliminaries. In the finals, Kinzie competed in the 200-yard medley relay and placed 15th, she also competed in the 200-yard free relay placing 6th.

Amaya Drake, competed in two relays the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard free relay placing 15th and 11th.

Jillian Pfarr, sophomore, competed in the 400-yard relay placing 11th in the finals.

Olivia Snow, sophomore, competed with Amaya, Jillian and Moriah in the 400-yard free relay placing 11th.

Carlos Esparza, junior, competed in the 500-yard free and the 100-yard fly placing 22nd and 28th in the preliminaries. In the finals, Carlos competed in 400-yard free relay placing 13th.

Overall, the team placed 11th with individual swimmers going on to state.
