The Lowry wrestling team attended Fernley’s Vaquero invitational tournament on January 22 and January 23. The Varsity team managed to rank first in the tournament, while the JV team ranked tenth.
“The Varsity team took first place at the Fernley Vaquero tournament, edging out Elko 249.5 to 236. The JV team took tenth place with 70 points, which is good considering it was an all-varsity tournament with 30 teams entered,” stated varsity coach John Brooks.
Brooks acknowledged three athletes who were champions during the tournament, one of which recognized as the tournament MVP.
“We had three individual champions, including Trase Bell, Nate Nelson, and Quint Bell. Quint was recognized as a tournament MVP,” said Brooks.
Brooks plans on improving his athletes by using a more pugnacious approach.
“[In order] to improve, we need to be more aggressive and use more offense, especially when trying to earn a takedown,” stated Brooks.
The Buckaroos will have their next duals at Battle Mountain on January 29.
