Lowry wrestlers return to defend state title

Last year the Lowry wrestling team took the 3-A state championship. Therefore, this year the bar is set high for them because they are a target for all those teams competing for the state title.

“We have a big target on our back with being the state champs,” said head coach John Brooks.

However, the wrestlers think they can take the pressure.

“As of the first match we look pretty strong,” said senior Skylyr Bleck.

“We have gotten some better ones [athletes], we have Michael Billingsley…he’ll do well for a freshman and Mitch Pollock, he’ll help us out in tournament and scoring points for us,” said sophomore Gus Duncan.

Lowry is looking at Spring Creek as their biggest competition. Nevertheless, the Bucks have some high goals for the season.

“Every year you have your eye on the state championship, this year will be no different,” said Brooks
The Buckaroos also have a wide variety of wrestlers.

“Right now it’s the middle I know we have at 135’s seven or eight kids; I think it’s the middle weight because we have a lot more kids and a lot more depth and a lot more talent,” said Duncan.

The Bucks look forward to an interesting season ahead of them.

The Lowry Buckaroos’ next meet will be in Winnemucca at the Convention Center this Thursday and Friday.
