In Winnemucca born and raised, on the basketball court was where he spent most of his days. Chillin’ out, maxin’, relaxin’, all cool, and all shooting some b-ball outside of school. Athlete of the Issue is Lowry’s favorite ginge,r Nathan Lutzow. Lutzow is a 198 cm tall senior and loves dunking on the competition when playing basketball.
Although basketball is his main hobby, Lutzow is also in Drama. He started off backstage as a part of Stagecrafts his junior year and when tryouts came along for his senior year he decided to take a chance.
“Last year I was in Stagecrafts and I decided to do Drama this year, if I hadn’t been in Stagecrafts I never would have been in Drama at all,” said Lutzow.
In the fall of 2015, he played the captain in “Frankenstein”. He will be playing King Oceanus, the little mermaid’s father and King of the Ocean, in the upcoming children’s play. Drama plays an important part in Lutzow’s life.
“I like going to Drama every day because I get to hang out with some pretty awesome people and I pretty much always laugh and it’s just a great environment to be around. Also, Mrs. James is also pretty awesome,” said Lutzow.
Outside of Drama, Lutzow is a fairly typical American teenager. When he’s not participating in school and sports he’s mostly with friends.
“In my free time I hang out with friends, I play video games, shoot some hoops, and I work at Pogonip,” said Lutzow.
Lutzow was chosen for AOI because of his performance in basketball. He starts for the Buckaroos and most nights the crowd can look forward to a dunk from him.
“I’ve been playing basketball since I was eight years old, but I never really got good until around eighth grade. I love basketball, everything about it. I like dunking, that’s pretty fun, and I’m not really good at three-pointers but when I do make some in practice I’m always really happy,” said Lutzow.
The crowd is Lutzow’s favorite part of the game, without them, it wouldn’t be the same.
“My favorite part of basketball is the intensity that we get from the crowd, it just gets me going and gets the adrenaline rushing. Whenever we’re in a close game and there’s a bucket and the building shakes and stuff, you feel good after that. But the student section needs to get better,” shared Lutzow.
As far as this season goes Lutzow has high expectations.
“I expect our team to win the league, go number one in the league, and get to state and then when we get to state I really want to win, that would be awesome,” said Lutzow.
This being his senior year, he wants to put everything into this last season.
Lutzow shared, “I want to give it my all every time I’m out there. I want to be my best because I don’t know if I’m going to go to college for basketball so this might be my last year. So I want to make a lot of memories and just go really hard and get to state and win. That’d be a good way to go out.”
