This past year has come and gone all too soon, but it has been nothing short of the best year for the seniors of Lowry High. After many sleepless nights of filling out scholarship applications, sending out grad announcements, and just reminiscing on all of our good times—it is now time to move on to the next endeavor life brings us. The students of the senior class all have many different paths that they have chosen, but whatever life throws at them, they will overcome all obstacles with perseverance.
Of course, getting to graduation doesn’t happen overnight, these students have been very hard at work for the last four years leading up to the big day to ensure that they walk across that stage on June 9.
“Honestly, this year really kicked my bum. Senioritis really got the best of me towards the end of the year. I literally had to bribe myself with Taco Bell as a reward for going to government,” said senior Maisie Paquette.
Senior year was very memorable for everyone in some way or another. This year marked the last of our spirit weeks, school dances, and proms. The Homecoming King and Queen were Omar Guerrero and Maddie Mayo. The Winterfest King and Queen were longtime friends Christian Riddle and Ashlee Barron and Prom Royalty was Mickey Donovan and Sierra Thiede.
“Winning Homecoming Queen was such a great experience. Being a candidate with my childhood friends Jill (Albright) and Caitlynn (Cooper) was so cool because I’ve known them forever. Winning the crowns with one of my best friends, Omar Guerrero, just really topped off my last Homecoming,” explained Mayo.
Jesus Escobedo was one of Lowry’s top soccer players during his four years of high school. He said that playing that sport that he loves gave him some of his best memories.
“My best memories came from playing soccer with my closest friends during my four years in high school,” said Escobedo.
Along with all these great accomplishments, the senior class also won the class of the year for 2015-2016.
The class fought and brawled against the junior class, but of course, we came out on top because we were the best.
Senior ditch day took place on Monday, May 23 at Chimney Creek reservoir. The seniors who went spent an overnight trip fishing, barbequing, and all hanging out together one last time before they start adulting.
The senior class officers worked hard year-round to raise money and plan for graduation. The whole senior class owes a big thank you to President Kailynn Yetter, Vice President Maclyn Crnkovich, and Secretary Natalie Ellifritz. These wonderful ladies did not do everything alone, however. Jessica Eastman and Roxanne Hardy put in long, hard hours of hallway decorating, grad planning, and working the Senior Store in the mornings to ensure that the senior class would come out on top of everything they do.
Maddie Grady was involved in Lowry leadership and definitely was a good person to go to when students needed to know about upcoming events.
“All of my years in leadership were probably my favorite memories, I enjoyed planning all the activities,” said Grady.
Clay Erquiaga, a graduating senior, said that some of his fondest memories were made with the drama cast. He said that he loved working together with all of his friends and making truly great plays with such wonderful people. Some of his favorite plays were “Macbeth” because it was “so epic” and the first play that he did with the cast, plus he got to play a young wizard. The next favorite he has is the senior skits for 2016. He loves doing it because he says it really fits his comedy style and he gets to play various characters.
Alexis Beltran on the other hand had a much simpler favorite memory from Lowry. She said her favorite part of her four years was jamming out to music with her friends during the infamous Lowry lunch runs. She also enjoyed the amazing music program at Lowry and all the swim team trips.
“Coming into a new school my sophomore year, everyone was so kind and I will miss them all,” said Beltran.
The senior class has had a very interesting time at Lowry from throwing water balloons at freshmen and almost getting expelled to athletes winning state championships, the class of 2016 has done it all. It’s hard to believe just four short years ago, we all were timid freshmen with no goals and bad hygiene and now we’ve blossomed into beautiful butterflies. We have made memories along the way that we will cherish for the rest of our lives, but for now, it is time to start the next chapter in our lives. Good luck class of 2016, thanks for all the laughs and memories.
Congrats, now let’s party.
