Martin Dockter has been picked as the performer of this 2024-2025 school year for his dedication to music and his major accomplishments in the past four years. Dockter has been playing music since he was a child, and it has become a huge part of his life.

“Music is really important to me for so many reasons, it’s always been a huge part of my life,” said Dockter. “It’s a spiritual release, expression, and discovery all at once.”

Along with this, Dockter’s father has pushed him to be better and connect with music in his developmental years.

“I’ve always just been drawn to music and it’s become a founding part of my life,” said Dockter. “My dad is a big driving factor to my musical career.”

Mr. David Munk, Lowry’s music teacher, has been a part of Dockter’s music career for the past four years and has seen the improvement coming from Dockter.

“When Martin first joined band, I knew he was going to achieve a lot,” said Munk. “He has proven my suspicion correct with everything he has achieved in his four years here.”

Throughout Dockter’s time at Lowry, his favorite piece he performed was Adoration by Florence Price.

“My favorite piece that we performed was Adoration by Florence Price,” said Dockter. “It has a lot of technique involved in it and is super fun to play.”

Along with Dockter’s achievements at the school, he was the only person at Lowry to perform at the All-State music concert. Dockter was picked to be the 7th chair for the trumpet section. It was an amazing experience for Dockter and challenged him to become better at his craft.

“All-state was really amazing,” said Dockter. “It was challenging in all the best ways, and I met a lot of really amazing people.”

Dockter’s favorite part of All-State was meeting Tris Imboden and attending a class he taught on the UNLV campus.

“My favorite part was probably meeting Tris Imboden, one of Chicago’s former drummers, and attending his masterclass on the UNLV campus,” said Dockter.

Mr. Munk also went with Dockter to All-State and had a great time with Dockter.

“He was the first person in 35 years in the band to go to All-State,” said Munk. “He has also been a gung-ho among the students and stood out among his competition.”

Dockter also enjoys doing other activities besides music. During his free time, Dockter loves to write, be outside, and go to local thrift shops.

“Outside of music, I spend most of my time writing, being outside, and thrifting,” said Dockter. “I feel connecting with myself during these activities helps me mentally.”
