Movie Review: ’42’

“42” is a biographical sports movie about the legend, Jackie Robinson. The film tells the story of Robinson’s life and how greatly he impacted not just the MLB but all of society. Robinson was played by Chadwick Boseman.

The movie revolves mostly around the 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers season and some of the 1946 season. Robinson was constantly living with prejudice and he was also trying to battle racism. The film combines drama and inspiration to create an effect that pulls the audience in and does not let go.

The film earned an estimated $27.3 million for its opening weekend, the best premiere for a baseball-themed film in Hollywood history. The film informed the viewer of the struggle against segregation and how Robinson helped end racism. “42” combined inspiration, wit and struggle to show the battle and hardship of Jackie Robinson.
