The New Year is always accompanied by an entirely new montage of films that you can spend a small fortune to go see. With genres ranging from Sci-fi to historical, all these films are predicted to make a significant splash in 2014. Please note that all dates mentioned in this article do not apply to the local movie theater, you will probably have to wait three to four weeks until your desired film arrives in town for your viewing pleasure.
1) Muscles flex (in slow motion) in the sequel to the 2007 film “300”. “300: Rise of an Empire” is scheduled to be released on March 7 of this year. The movie will follow the brave Spartan warriors into another fierce battle, but this time instead of seeing half-naked men fight on land, we get to see them fight by sea. It’s the perfect date movie, blood and gore for all the gentlemen, and plenty of eye candy for all the ladies out there.
2) “X-men: Days of Future Past”, will premiere May 23 and includes the original trilogy cast, plus the 2011 “First Class” cast. With a time-bending plot that sends Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back to the past in order to stop events that will lead to a catastrophic future, this could be the best X-Men movie yet.
3) We will have a chance to witness a darker side of Disney with Angelina Jolie as the self-proclaimed “Mistress of All Evil”, starting May 30. The untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from Sleeping Beauty, “Maleficent” will give the evil enchantress the opportunity to tell her side of the fairytale. Though I’m not entirely sure it’s a little kid-friendly, this film is definitely not classic Disney.
4) Sure to be a Young Adult hit, “The Fault in Our Stars” premieres June 6. Based on John Green’s best-selling novel, the film will follow the story of Hazel Grace, a 16-year-old terminal cancer patient who falls in love with the charming Augustus Waters at a support group. Make sure to bring a box of tissues to this one folks because you would have to be a heartless animal to not shed a tear.
There are many other pictures not mentioned in this article, but these are the movies I’m excited most about seeing in the next couple of months. Surely 2014 will be packed with blockbusters and box office flops, so keep an eye out and do your research before you spend all your hard-earned money on a lame movie.
