Science teacher Ms. Cassandra Anderson has chosen Marilynn Bautista as the Student of the Week for her hard work, courage, and dedication to learning.

“Marilynn inspires me to follow her example as she works really hard to overcome the challenges of both a language barrier and her extreme shyness,” said Anderson.

Bautista’s dedication and focus continue to make a strong impression in class. Each day, she shows up prepared to learn and puts in consistent effort, no matter how difficult the task. Ms. Anderson noted that Marilynn never uses her challenges as an excuse, but rather uses them as motivation to push herself forward.

“She makes me want to be a better teacher,” Anderson added.

Bautista was selected for the way she’s taken on a class presentation that pushed her far outside of her comfort zone. Although English is not her first language—Spanish is—she has done an excellent job researching her topic and preparing how she will present it in English. Her willingness to take on something that many students would find intimidating shows just how determined she is to grow.

Ms. Anderson is proud of her for not only facing her fears but also taking pride in her effort and growth. The progress she has made during this project has impressed her teacher and set an example for her classmates.

“I’m happy she picked me because I feel like I’m putting a lot of effort into the work I’m going to do,” said Bautista.

Bautista’s quiet courage and commitment to self-improvement are what make her stand out. Even though she doesn’t speak up often in class, her actions speak loudly. She continues to push herself, take risks, and stay focused, showing that success comes from determination and heart.
