In a release on Thursday, the Navy revealed that discharges due to fitness failures are up 40 percent in the Navy. To combat this the Navy is focusing more on physical fitness and nutrition. Ray Mabus the Secretary of the Navy made physical fitness one of his key points in his 21st Century Sailor and Marine initiative. The main focus is to keep sailors at their physical peak while at sea or on land. The Navy will have fitness sessions and a more strict focus on the physical readiness test (PRT). There will be education workshops that focus on nutrition topics that affect these sailors.

“Being a former Sailor, I feel this course provides relevant and applicable information for the Sailor and their families to use in a variety of situations. Whether Sailors are looking to improve their performance, overall health, trying to lose weight, become a better food shopper, or simply trying to be more educated in nutrition, this course has it covered,” said Nicholas Aures, CNIC Navy fitness performance enhancement dietitian.

Mission Nutrition will be offered to sailors and their family members at Navy fitness centers. There are over 100 certified instructors within the Navy regions at 55 different bases.
