Ready to meet your new teachers?

Although the end of the year signifies a goodbye to many of our favorite teachers, it also represents an opportunity to welcome new faces.

With the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, 6 new staff members will join our community at Lowry. Many of you already know Jessica Mayo, who has just recently started her job in the counseling office. Chelsea Odoms from WJHS will be teaching English. Jeanette Montero will be coming on board as a social worker for HCSD. The Special Education department will gain two new additions: Laurel Weaver, and Army Veteran Larry Renteria. A new Automotive Technologies teacher will also be joining us.

The new staff is more than prepared to do whatever they can for their students.

“I will be here to work with you,” said Renteria. “I want to be one of your greatest assets… I want to be there to assist, inspire, listen, and make a difference in the lives of others however they see fit…. I will work as hard as needed so that you can achieve your dreams and goals, so long as you are willing to work with me. My door is always open for any student who wants to learn and better themselves for a brighter tomorrow.”

As always, our teachers expect just as much of their students as their students expect of them.

“I want my students to have fun while learning,” said Odoms. “Their behavior definitely determines the dynamic in the classroom…I also want them to know that they are valued and their opinions matter, but that they need to express them respectfully. I try my hardest to make sure that they get the most out of their educational journey, and I expect them to do the same.”

Mayo plans to be as supportive of the students as she can.

“I plan on contributing to Lowry in any way that I can,” said Mayo. “I enjoy sports, school, and getting to know people. I want to be someone that students can come to for help with any problem…I am most excited to continue working with students to help them excel in their classes and figure out the next steps after high school.”

Each new teacher has their own motivation for pursuing the career path they did.

“I had a very influential high school teacher, Mrs. Tirabassi, who showed me exactly how amazing English is,” said Odoms. “She made me want to become a high school teacher so that I can spread my love for English and maybe help some young adults before they exit high school.”

Many regarded our school with a glowing review.

“I’ve taught in many different types of special education classrooms,” said Weaver. “I took this job at Lowry High School because of the excellent reputation of your staff, from the administration all the way to your Education support team.”
