Class of 2019: We left our marks

Class of 2019: We left our marks

By Ale Ibarra Posted June 6, 2019

One day, it will be your last first day, your last pep assembly, Friday night football game, your last high school lunch, your last time parking in the Senior lot, and the last laugh in the classroom with your favorite teacher. It is important to take note of these lasts because they will never be revisited again. Not in the same moment, feeling or state of mind.

Our great year commenced with what it consists of every year; the first day of school. We all got greeting emails from our GBC dual-enrollment professors if we were going that route or if we were getting several sheets of paper to take home for our parents to sign. Everyone was going in through the glass hallway doors to see the blue and gold “Welcome Back, Lowry!” letters painted on the windows or parking in the Senior parking lot for the very first time and feeling like you’ve earned it. That was 283 days ago.

The new backpacks, pencils, binders, clothes, and shoes will never have the same effect as they did these last 12 years of our lives. To some, going to sleep early to go to school the next day will be something to be missed but to others, having no more of that every day will be the best thing they’ve ever heard. Whatever the feelings may be, the last four years happened and I hope we can all say that they were some of the most carefree and fun times we will have.

The Homecoming theme this year was Spooky Week and the dress-up days included a Dia de los Muertos color war, Goblin and Ghoul Day, and Buckaroo trick or treat day. PowderPuff and He-Man were dominated by the seniors; once again. Although varsity football lost their game against Elko, we all celebrated the next day anyway at the annual Hoco dance.

The Winterfest spirit week was A Buckaroo Road Trip. Each class was assigned the East Coast, West Coast, Midwest, or South for hallway decorating. The Monday dress-up day was Florida Day, Tuesday was New York Day, Wednesday was Colorado Day, Thursday was Oregon Day and of course, Friday was Blue and Gold Day. There were pep assemblies that demonstrated just how involved our class loves to be. Although we didn’t make it to the end of the “Heads or Tails” activity, we sure did make it through without cheating. 😉

Regardless of how we feel about these past four years at Albert M. Lowry High School, it is safe to say that nothing will be getting easier from here and these were the years to have fun. There will be more responsibilities, bills, late nights, early mornings, and multiple circumstances that life will throw at us that we will have to make the necessary sacrifices for. Some of us may already be experiencing life-changing circumstances. Leaving home is one of those times. The most important thing, however, is to keep in mind that there is nobody that can live your life better than yourself. There will be times after graduating high school when it all seems like too much. Don’t give up your motivation, life will always be full of ups and downs but we have to persevere. Nothing is stronger than hope. With that hope and perseverance, you can make amazing things happen.

Today, we will be putting on our blue or gold gowns, putting on our graduation regalia, taking pictures with some of our classmates for the last time and walking up to greet our teachers and administrators for what may be the last time as well. Let us take what we have learned and put it to use to have the best times of our lives. It was great knowing you all.
