Every year, a few athletes are selected from the best athletes from Nevada’s schools. This year Giovani Sapien and Marcus Montes were given this recognition for their efforts on the football field.

Head coach Taua Cabatbat was impressed with his two All-State players.

“Those two kids contributed a lot to what we were doing, and they deserve to get All-State recognition,” said Cabatbat. “Giovani got first-team kick return specialist and second-team wide receiver. Marcus Montes got second-team defensive back. It’s been a pretty long time since we had someone make the All-State team for football.”

Sapien has worked hard on his off time between the end of his junior year to the beginning of senior year.

“I continued to work during the off-season to improve my game which finally came to the first game of the season where it finally paid off,” said Sapien. “After having a great game I was locked in and ready for the rest of the season to show off my skills. It helped me by getting more attention to my name for college coaches so I can play football at the next level.”

Showing that his hard work paid off Sapien was selected for the 1st All-State Team as a Return Specialist, followed by being selected for the 2nd All-State Team as a Wide Receiver.

Montes also spent extra time and effort into practice with the help of his teammates and the right mindset.

“I stayed focused and motivated,” said Montes. “I want to continue to get better. My coaches and teammates helped me achieve this.”

Montes was recognized for his actions by being selected to be a part of the 2nd All-State Team as a Defensive Back.
