School leaders discuss the state of the school

Summer is over. Everyone is back in school, ready to begin yet another school year. Many students are eager to begin new subjects and get another year under their belt. The school administrators want nothing more than to facilitate the process, and to improve on some of the things achieved last year. Mr. Tim Connors, one of Lowry’s administrators, has thrown in his opinion on how to better the state of Lowry High School.

“The state of the school is always a work in progress. We need to strive to make this school better in all facets,” said Connors. “We got quite a few things done last year as a whole, and that’s great because it’s all for the kids,”

Connors also went on to describe the administrators’ goals for this year.

“This year, we really want to work in conjunction with [Great Basin College] to help students earn college credit. We also want to continue cooperation with the Mining Foundation to give our students the necessary skills they need for careers and colleges. Something that we need to do in order to achieve these goals is to continue all communication amongst all stakeholders for the betterment of each individual student’s needs,”

As far as athletics, the administrators also have some goals that they would like to achieve there.

“We want to make sure all of our student-athletes continue to strive in class and within the athletic competitions set forth. We would also like for our student-athletes to learn valuable life lessons as they participate in said extracurricular activities. It really all starts in the classroom,” said Connors.
Looking ahead, Connors believes these goals will be achieved.

“We have a lot of support from our wonderful community of Winnemucca, and that’s going to help us achieve these goals. We would like to thank the community for all it does for us,” said Connors.

Student Body President Madison Mayo’s goals for the school echo Connors’ ideas.

“One of the biggest goals that [Leadership] has planned for this year is to have more student involvement. A way to achieve that will be the Homecoming Parade. It’s going to be a great way to promote school spirit,” said Mayo. “We are also trying to get our students’ voices heard, so a way to do that is the new comment locker near the Freshman hallway.”

With great goals set out, Lowry High School is ready for yet another enjoyable school year.
