In spite of a forgettable game to end the season, the JV Bucks posted a 6-4 record on the season.
Sophomore tight end and outside backer Gratian Dawson recognizes his team’s failure and looks forward to a better season next year.
“I think our season went pretty good,” said Dawson. “We are most definitely a good team. We made minor adjustments here and there from team to team. We could use some work, but that all comes in time and effort, and I look forward to a good varsity season next year.”
The Buckaroos’ season got off to a promising start by beating the Battle Mountain
Longhorns 47-14. The Bucks then went on to beat Churchill County 37-0, Elko 12-7, and the Fernley Vaqueros 28-18 for three consecutive wins early in the season. The following week, however, resulted in their first loss, 50-0 against the Spring Creek Spartans. Churchill County would then forfeit the week of Lowry’s Homecoming. The team added one more win the remainder of the season by defeating Wooster.
The team played a unique schedule due to the lack of JV teams in the league. Coach Austin Mayo was impressed with his team’s performance.
“I thought we had a really good season. We were proud of our five and four record,” said Mayo.
Sophomore Chance Huitt agreed.
“I think we did great this year,” said Huitt. “We came out blazing at the beginning of the season. We worked well with one another even during our losses. This season was jam-packed with a lot of fun, hard work, and great opportunities. We are on to bigger and better things now.”
“We only really had one game that I would say we didn’t show up or compete,” said Mayo. “Overall, it was a pretty good year.”
