The Lowry senior class sponsored blood drive was on December 7 in the New Gym from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jessica Eastman, Senior Class Advisor, was in charge of the event for LHS. Eastman described the process of donating blood step by step.

“The process of donating blood is simple,” said Eastman. “First off the students have to go through the interview process to determine whether they are iron deficient in their blood and if they’re healthy overall,” said Eastman.

Eastman then tells of the next step in the donation process.

“Then the students are hooked up to machines and given a shot to extract the blood depending on their type as the process takes only 10-20 minutes,” said Eastman.

The blood is collected by United Blood Services to donate to those in need said Eastman.

Joe Gildone encouraged others to donate.

“I almost passed out in the chair. Overall I think everyone should donate,” said Joe Gildone. Enrique Fregoso echoed Gildone’s sentiments.

“The cause is a great one and donating blood to those in need is very important,” said Fregoso.

United Blood Services is a non-profit organization that goes all over America to local communities to help set up areas to donate blood and encourage people to donate their blood. United Blood Services has been around since 1943 and has helped hundreds of hospitals all over the United States.
