Last year, the Lady Bucks had a good season finishing 3rd in the league with an 18-7 record and were 20-12 overall. However, they suffered a disappointing 14-4 loss to Fallon in the regional tournament after beating the same team the previous day 12-2. This knocked the Lady Bucks out of contention for state.
Ending this way did not sit well with the Bucks.
“We will have more experience this year. We are picking up where we left off,” said Sydney Connors.
Coach Ty Lucas has high expectations for the season.
“We expect this season, like always, to be a successful one in terms of competing for a top spot in our league. Additionally, we hope to take an experienced group and expand upon the things we were able to accomplish last year as individuals, but more importantly as a team,” said Lucas.
Lowry is returning most of its roster from last year, which lost Caitlynn Cooper and Ashley Barron to graduation.
“We welcome three new faces to the varsity squad this year: freshman Kelcey Cooper, and two sophomores, Madi McClellan and Macey Katzenmeyer,” said Lucas.
However, Lucas knows that the league will be competitive once again.
“We view every team in our league as our ‘main’ competition; each team poses different things to prepare for,” said Lucas. “Overall, we, ourselves, are our ‘main’ competition. If we do what we do well, we will come out on top.”
Senior Alanna Miller has been on varsity for three years and knows what it will take to get to state.
“We’re going to take all of the teams more seriously and treat every game as if it were a playoff game,” said first baseman Miller.
The Lady Bucks scrimmaged four teams in Reno last weekend and will open their season at Del Campo (CA) High School this weekend.
