The Student Body Secretary, FFA Treasurer, and your Student-Athlete of the Issue: Nate Nelson aka Nater Tater.

Nelson has been a part of varsity football for three years, varsity wrestling since his sophomore year, and played two years of JV baseball. Nelson has also been a part of Leadership for two years and is currently serving as the Student Body Secretary. He has also been active in FFA all four years.

Nelson started out his senior year of football as the starting wide receiver/cornerback and finished the season as the starting quarterback. Although the Bucks didn’t have the season they had hoped for, it didn’t stop Nelson from shining on the field.

Nelson’s wrestling coach is one to thank as to why he is the athlete he is today.

“Coach Brooks has pushed me to be the athlete I am today and has influenced my life greatly. Even though he sees me struggle he always pushes me to work harder and be more successful,” said Nelson.

Nelson has an impressive wrestling history, as he competed at the state tournament in both his freshman and sophomore years, then continued to win the regional title in his weight class and place third at the state tournament his junior year. He was a part of the Lowry wrestling dynasty helping to win six straight titles and then the state record of most consecutive dual wins.

As the season continues for his final year of wrestling, Nelson hopes to finish off his career with a state championship, not only as an individual but a team title as well.

Nelson participated his freshman and sophomore year of JV baseball but took his junior year off. Nelson looks to continue his baseball career this spring.

Nelson has learned many things as a student-athlete and thanks sports for teaching him important life lessons.

“Sports have taught me many things, how to push myself, how to work as a team, how to make sacrifices, learning discipline but mostly how to deal with failure. Learning how to get up and learn from your mistakes and to try again,” said Nelson.

Nate’s biggest supporters on and off the field, attending as many wrestling matches as possible, and cheering him on no matter what, is his family.

“The biggest supporters in my life are my family. My mom, dad, and my two brothers Aaron and Ryan. They have always been there when I needed them most,” said Nelson.

Sports have been a big part of Nate’s high school career and will always have those memories, his favorite being his wrestling career. Specifically, winning a team state championship two years in a row and being a part of the greatest wrestling team in Nevada.

After graduating high school Nate is going to continue his education at Great Basin College in Elko through the MTC program and study diesel mechanics.
