Brooks Bergenheier was chosen as Student-Athlete of the Week by JV baseball coach Clay Sagers. Bergenheier was chosen for his work and mentality.

“He’s been doing a good job and has been working hard all week,” said Sagers. “That’s why I picked him. He’s been more aggressive, and it’s paying off for him.

Sagers cited Bergenheier’s exceptional performance at the plate.

“Brooks came out with a different mentality and approach,” Sagers said. “He’s a lot more aggressive at the plate. The couple of games we had him lead off. He came out right away and laid down a nice bunt. He went right up to the plate looking to hit.”

Bergenheir’s hitting isn’t the only aspect of his play that caught Sagers’ attention.

“He’s also been playing really well in the field,” said Sagers. “He came out and pitched really well. We would’ve kept rolling with him, but we wanted to get some other guys on the mound.”

Bergenheier’s attitude is also well appreciated.

“He’s not a kid whose tongue I have to worry about,” said Sagers. “I tell him to do work on something, and he’ll go do it. I don’t have to babysit him. I can trust him to work on getting better when I’m not around.”

Not only is Bergenheier’s athletic achievement impressive, but his enthusiasm for the sport.

His love for the game is inspiring. You can just tell that he loves baseball, and he always wants to work. He’s really passionate about it. He’s always working on the little things to make himself better.
