The athlete chosen for Student-Athlete of the Week is Jesus Escobedo for varsity soccer. His coach, Steve Swanson, picked him because he is always very impressed with the way he plays and how he works with the team.
Jesus decided to get into the sport because he not only likes to play soccer, but he loves to assist people who are just starting out and show them the love of the sport. He also claims that he sees the field in a way that nobody else can.
“I see the field in a way that not a lot of other people do… I see plays and I know how to set up the goals and everything. That’s what I like to do, and that’s why I love to play because I see things and have control,” Escobedo said.
He has many inspirations in his life that helped him get into playing soccer, but there was always one main one that stuck out to him.
“As a kid, I grew up with Chris Escobedo and he was a really good soccer player and he was always my role model,” Escobedo added.
Jesus Escobedo is very thankful for soccer because it doesn’t just help him play well on the field it helps him in everyday life.
“It taught me to keep my mind open and not be afraid to talk to new people because I’m always meeting new people and having new teammates. It has also helped me be an overall better communicator and has taught me a lot about teamwork,” said Escobedo.
