Senior Michael Rangel is varsity baseball’s Student-Athlete of the Week. This is Rangel’s second year on the varsity team, although he has been coached by varsity head coach Ron Espinola for many years. In all those years of baseball, Espinola has seen the leader in Rangel.
“He exemplifies what we try to teach our players, which is a team-first mentality,” said Espinola. “The kid seems to always do the right thing, he’s always working hard, and he sets a great example of what it is to be a teammate and to be a part of a team.”
Rangel is an important part of the team.
“He does so many little things that aren’t necessarily seen in a game, but have an impact on how we play as a team,” said Espinola. “And, so yes, he does get on the field and he does get playing time, but all the other things that a parent or a fan might not see, Michael does those things. Whether it’s warming up a pitcher or chasing foul balls, or simply being in the game at all times and supporting his teammates. He’s showing a lot of leadership in that way.”
