The few protecting the many

Albert M. Lowry has a few seniors who have chosen to commit to serve their nation.

Shelby Lewis is one of the seniors who has committed. Lewis is a part of the Lowry’s Band and a member of Drama. She is seeking the chance to grow and experience the world.

“What drove me to join the military was a combination of wanting to see the world and earn respect,” said Lewis. “Not just from others, but also for myself. I’ve always admired the discipline and pride that comes with serving, and I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself. The military offered a path that would challenge me, help me grow, and allow me to travel and experience life beyond my hometown.”

Lewis is going to be a military police officer; she signed on March 11 and is set to leave August 4. Another senior who is going into the Military is Zaquery Growcock, a varsity baseball player.

“The reason that I wanted to go into the Military is because of the benefits I can get for my education after,” said Growcock.

Growcock has not enlisted yet but is looking to go into the Military. Similar to Growcock, Aiden Peters, a swimmer and FFA member, is choosing to serve our country for educational benefits.

“I am going into the United States Navy,” said Peters. “ I decided to join the Navy for many reasons. There are lots of benefits, such as education. My dream school is Texas A&M, and the Navy will pay for my schooling.”

Peters is not only going to help make the world a better place, but also to see the world.

“Another reason is I love to travel, and in the Navy, you are able to see the country as well as many other countries across the world,” said Peters. “The Navy has lots to offer and I am very excited to join.”

Jhett Harber, who has been one of Lowry’s most successful wrestlers, is one of the seniors going into a Military Academy.

“I want to join to obtain my pilot’s license and further my career as a private contractor,” said Harber.
