Freshman football coach, Scott Santos, nominated Vincent Gomez as Student-Athlete of the Week. He acknowledges Gomez for his hard work and leadership.

“He puts a lot of effort in on both sides of the ball, the team as a whole benefits from his leadership skills and his motivation,” said Santos.

Gomez is just as confident in his ability to motivate his teammates.

“My energy helps my team,” said Gomez. “Whenever I make a good play it hypes them up and keeps them motivated.”

Gomez is the freshman football team’s Running Back and Defensive Back. Santos believes the freshman is doing well in his positions but still has some things to work on.

“Primarily just understanding the overall program and offense better, he’s new to this offense, we just work him to understand the new components as we add more to the offense,” said Santos.

Although Gomez is just a freshman he excels as a leader.

“Vincent leads by example, as opposed to being a vocal leader,” said Santos. “There’s a lot of value in that. He has the desire to compete. He contributes to his team in every play.”

The freshman has also set goals for himself.

“Some of my goals are to get more tackles and play smarter,” said Gomez. “I feel like I am doing decent, I can definitely improve a lot more. Honestly, I just want to win.”
