Pennywise the Dancing Clown has returned after 27 years of hibernation, and he’s scarier than ever. The recreation of the 1990’s “It” was far more intense and gory than the original movie. It contained a decent amount of jump scares and suspense; just what everyone was hoping for.
The book “It” by Stephen King, has been known as one of his scariest novels, but let’s be honest; the original “It” movie was actually not that good. Pennywise was far from terrifying, and the movie itself was a mild disappointment, especially for being made in the 90’s.
The horror genre fell flat for quite a few years. Although, 2017 has taken a turn for the better. The 2017 version of Stephen King’s “It”, “is one of the best (movies) that has been done in recent years,” according to Rotten Tomatoes critic, Ernesto Diezmartinez.
“It” broke the record for the biggest opening day for a horror film in several countries, and grossed over $123 million in just five days of showings. It was also released in over 46 countries including Holland, Korea, Spain, Denmark, and Brazil. Even the author Stephen King was very impressed with the outcome.
We’ve all heard the menacing voice of Pennywise chanting “You’ll float too!” but what’s so great about “It”? Poor little Georgie (Jackson Scott) gets his arm bit off within the first few minutes of the movie. His older brother Bill (Jaeden Lieberher) and a few other outcast kids, who call themselves the Losers Club, decide to find and kill the entity who took Georgie. The Losers Club consists of actors Finn Wolfhard, Jack Grazer, Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis, and Wyatt Oleff in the small town of Derry, Maine. They soon realize they are all being hunted by the same crazy clown, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. They manage to create a map of sewers, in an attempt to find Georgie, and head straight into Penny’s lair.
As far as we’re concerned, Pennywise has definitely upped his game. The film earned an 87% from the Rotten Tomatoes critics and a B+ from CinemaScore, although it deserved more. “It: Chapter 2” has been confirmed, so there’s a lot more of the Losers Club and Pennywise (still being played by Skarsgård) to come.
