What is more entertaining than old TV shows? Bad TV shows about video games, of course! What is the worst thing you could think of? “The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!” Yeah, that’s right a show about the Mario gang. Also on Fridays, there would be episodes of “The Legend of Zelda”.
I learned about this TV show in the summer of 2010 while watching Netflix. I watched it about every day, and I have to say, it was just downright entertaining.
The TV show starts off with a cheesy rap that has two Italian men who are supposed to be Mario and Luigi. After the rap, it shows Mario and Luigi in their home, making crazy gadgets, pizza, or working at their plumbing jobs. Then something bad or “unexpected” happens, and that’s when it switches to the cartoon.
There is a commercial for the Zelda show, then yet another opening theme for the cartoon section that shows how the Mario brothers travel to the magical land of Goomba’s and Koopah’s. After that, the cartoon isn’t too horrible; it’s just a strange thing to watch.
There were a total of 65 episodes of “The Super Mario Brothers Super Show!” 52 of the episodes were Mario related, and the other 13 were Zelda episodes.
The Legend of Zelda feature of the show might disappoint Zelda fans, because of how inaccurate it is compared to today’s standards. However, this TV show was made in the late 1980 and early 1990s. It was based on the first Zelda game, so it was accurate for the time.
After either Zelda or Mario, there were the credits. Which was probably the most entertaining part. The credits had the actor, Lou Albano, who played Mario singing “Do the Mario”.
If you’re a fan of Nintendo games or a fan of old comedies, check this out. In all it is a good, yet very strange, show. So… Do the Mario.
