Winterfest is a week in every school year that is dedicated to the sports going on during that time. In this case, it’s basketball and wrestling. Students who participate in school activities and attend the assemblies are the ones who feel more involved.
“I like going to the pep assemblies because it gives recognition to the sports teams and it gets me pumped. Our school is very supportive,” said Nathan Perkinson.
The assembly took place this Winterfest week on Friday, January 20. It commenced with the national anthem, which was sung by Frankie Baumeister. Which was followed by a stunning performance by the JV and varsity Cheer squads. After that, the Winterfest royalty candidates were introduced through a video. The candidates were Annaleise Gabica, Brooklyn Backus, Amaya Herrera, Brady Lange, Brendan Lipsett, and Travis Hardy.
The dance team showed off their talent with their individual and partner choreography. The winter sports teams were announced starting off with coach Chelsea Cabatbat introducing the girls’ basketball teams. Then, it was the wrestling; coach John Brooks introduced Blue and Gold. Furthermore, coach Chad Peters entered, getting the student section hyped and introducing the boy’s basketball teams. Leadership hosted the class activities throughout the assembly.
To finish it all off, Ms. Julia Topholm announced who was winning in the class points competition, and started out by saying that Freshmen were in fourth place. There were only twenty-five points separating the Sophomores and the Juniors; Juniors being in second place. The first-place position was held by the Seniors.
