The Student-Athlete of the Week for wrestling coach Brent Corak and John Brooks chose Javier Gonzalez for his outstanding work and hard work.
“He has been out-working everyone else at practice and it is starting to pay off in the way he has been wrestling in the competitions,” said Brooks.
Coach Corak looks forward to Gonzalez’ future in the wrestling program.
“He stood out during the Cody Louk Invitational here in Winnemucca,” said Corak. “He medaled for the first time and he made it a point to use the technique we drill every day in practice. This is something we as coaches have been emphasizing all year and Javi took it to heart. He is a second-year wrestler and is improving quickly and consistently. We see big things for Javier in the future.”
Even though wrestling is challenging Gonzalez hopes to be a state champion one day.
“It’s a tough sport where it’s just you and the coach is walking you through it,” said Gonzalez. “You only get better at practice and show what you worked for at your tournament.”
