In December of 2017, 26 Lowry students submitted their work to the Scholastic Art Competition.
Out of the 26 students, 9 of them received honors ranging through three different categories. This is the largest amount of honorees Lowry has had while entering the competition.
The students honored are as follows (in no particular order):
3rd Place Honorable Mention- Elizabeth Gilboy, Aimee Castaneda, Cynthia Alanis, Destiny DeLaMora, Janelle Cassar, Colton DeLaMora, Yerania Leyve, and Lucy Ruiz.
2nd Place Silver Key- Lucy Ruiz (two pieces)
1st Place Gold Key- Lucy Ruiz and Celia Riveria, who will be honored at a ceremony next month in Reno at the Holland Gallery.
This is Colton DeLaMora’s second year entering the competition. This year he entered an extremely realistic Deadpool, The Flash, and Spiderman; all drawn in colored pencil. Colton worked extremely hard to complete his pieces.
“I put a lot of work and effort into my pieces, to the point where it hurt to pick up a pencil,” said DeLaMora.
Art teachers Ms. Julia Topholm and Ms. Cassandra Jenkins are both very proud of their students.
“Both myself and Ms. Jenkins are extremely excited for our students and their willingness to showcase their talent at the state level. We are so pleased with the results and extremely proud of all the students who entered work into the competition,” said Topholm.
