Ever watched the original “Karate Kid”? Not the Jaden Smith-Jackie Chan version, but the 1984 original. If you have, or even if you have not, “Cobra Kai” is a great new series on Youtube Red that everyone should give a try.
The series takes place 34 years after the events that occurred in the original karate kid. Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) who was previously the antagonist is now trying to turn his life around. After looking back on all of his mistakes and seeing the success of his former competitor Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) the protagonist of the “Karate Kid”, Johnny begins to turn his life around. He reopens his old high school karate dojo Cobra Kai where he was once a student. His class begins to fill up with students, many of who are bullied to learn how to defend themselves. He then enters his students in the same All Valley Karate Tournament that he competed in thirty-four years ago.
The series is hilarious, full of plot twists, action, and drama, and also has some heartfelt moments. All 10 episodes are available now on YouTube Red.
