On Friday, May 18, the Lowry band and choir held their last concert of the year and their last performance ever with the conductor, Paul Criddle. Mr. Criddle has been a Lowry staff member for over 29 years. All the students involved with music at Lowry would agree that this was an emotional but amazing experience.
Swing Choir, Women’s Choir, and band all performed. There were seven performances with multiple songs in total, including the surprise song that the students planned for Mr. Criddle at the end. Former band and choir students were involved in this special performance as well.
Sophomore Isabelle Acevedo thanked Criddle for the impact he has made on people’s lives including her own.
“He will be greatly missed for the impact he has made. He has made my passion for music stronger than ever,” said Acevedo. “Most of his former students were there to support him. It was amazing seeing the gym so full of people. This concert was awesome.”
Choir member, Ariana Galindo would agree that it was an amazing experience.
“It was probably the best experience ever. There were so many people in the stands. It was emotional but also a day to look past the fun and memorable times,” said Galindo. “Mr. Criddle is not only a great music director but a great role model and I am glad to know a person like him.”
The night ended with a performance of Criddle’s eight children singing an original song. This was special to Criddle considering his children have all not been together at the same time for 12 years. The amount of support and energy this concert held through the gym was incredible.
Swing Choir will perform at the academic assembly on June 5 and on graduation night, on June 7.
