Should parents pay their kids for good grades?

Most kids these days are always looking for ways to earn a little extra spending money. Some parents came up with a solution and think that if their child has good grades they should get paid to keep doing good in school. However, is this an appropriate way to bribe students into trying their best during school hours? Would you as a parent consider doing this with your children?

Some parents would say this is a good way to help your student get motivated to study harder, some parents may even do this in their own house or may even think about considering this. When kids work hard in school and don’t ever get rewarded for it they will lose motivation and possibly stop trying entirely. It gives them goals to achieve and builds good work ethics as far as school goes.

Other families argue with the fact that bribing their children is an appropriate way to keep their student’s grades up. Instead of bribing them to have good grades maybe we should punish them for having bad grades. We can still reward them for having good grades by bragging about how well our child is doing in school. This makes them actually want to have good grades on their own, so when they get into high school or even college they have motivation to work hard on their own without being bribed to do so. As far as the earning a little extra cash issue goes, that can be taken care of by doing chores around the house.
