Mike Smith delivered a great speech as one of the best guest speakers that Lowry has had in a couple of years.
It was both inspirational and insightful, the overall message that he conveyed was to be a better person and not to fall under everyday peer pressure.
Smith grew up poor and had a tough childhood between his dad’s health problems and struggling with his grades through school. Throughout his teens, Smith developed a bad habit of falling under peer pressure and started to get involved in drugs and alcohol. His senior year was the year he turned his life around and he decided he wanted to make a difference in not only his life but in other people’s lives as well.
Mike also adopted his best friend from high school who was a freshman when Smith graduated. Smith and his wife now help him because his friend is mentally disabled.
The speech was thought-provoking and hopefully will speak to teens who are going through tough times.
