After not taking the state title for the first time in seven years, the wrestling team looks to regain its place at the top.
“I think the team will do pretty well this year. I think we could take state,” sophomore Cade Billingsley stated. “My goal is to get better and win state because I don’t want to be the only Billingsley that doesn’t. Also, I want us to keep up our dual winning streak.”
His teammate, senior Micah Somers, agreed with Billingsley.
“The team is looking really good we are a very experienced team only a couple of kids haven’t wrestled before so we are looking very good,” said Somers.
“I think I will do pretty good. I’m at a new weight class but I think I can do pretty good,” Somers continued to talk about his expectations for himself this season. His goal is the same as any wrestler, to win state.
Coach Brant Corak thinks there is no real favorite for the title this year.
“The overall goal of LHS wrestling is always the same. To win a state title. The rich tradition of Lowry Wrestling demands this goal each and every year. Over the last several years, Lowry was viewed as the favorite entering each year. This year I am not sure who is the frontrunner,” Corak said about this season’s expectations. “Fallon and Spring Creek are very tough this year and there are always the southern schools to contend with, including defending state champion Pahrump Valley. All we can do is make sure that we outwork anyone we will face and be sure that each of our wrestlers improves in each and every practice we have.”
The wrestlers will take to the mats on Friday, December 4 at Churchill County.
