For the Lowry track, the team has made a lot of progress. Vanessa Lott, a senior, shows her hard work and dedication to the love of the sport.
“I like the track community,” said Lott. “We’re all really close and have a lot of fun.”
For being in her senior year, Lott keeps going on track with her friends and the hard work she’s put in.
“I like being able to spend time with my friends,” said Lott. “Our girls’ team is really good and has a good chance at state, which is exciting.”
For the girls, they ended up getting a new PR, placing second at regionals with a time of 50.24 in the 4x100m Relay (Tariana Weatherspoon, Kaitlin Messmer, Kepa Hilbish, Britain Backus), letting them advance to state. Coach Tyrell Lucas is overwhelmed with the dedication and success the girls’ team had overall this year.
“This track season has been a very positive experience,” said Lucas. “The girls’ track team worked very hard to accomplish the success they had this season.”
The varsity girls’ team went a perfect 9-0 against all 3A competition and capped it off with a Regional Title and ultimately earned the State Championship.
“I’m proud of the girls overall for their dedication and hard work to achieve what they set their minds to,” said Lucas.
Shane Gilliland, who had been stuck at a height of 11’6” in pole vault for the past year, put his hard work and dedication to progress this season.
“I figured out that putting myself first and putting in my best effort every day had to show something,” said Gilliland.
Gilliland balanced his outside life with his sports, and eventually, he progressed.
“Hitting a new height was relieving, and it made me feel good about the rest of the year,” said Gilliland.
Along with pole vault, Gilliland decided to try something new this year and throw.
“Trying something new was different, but it was a fun experience,” said Gilliland
The track season brings a new meaning to athletes throughout all events as they participate for different reasons.
For Kaitlin Messmer, she takes her hard work on track to focus on getting better for her soccer season.
“I do track for the energy around the sport and staying in shape for other sports,” said Messmer.
The Lowry track team brings a positive environment for all athletes participating in different events.
“The coaching environment and it’s something fun to do with fun people to be around,” said Messmer.
The environment and hard dedication to the sport led the 2025 track season to be a winning year in all events, including bringing home a 3A state championship title.
