On Tuesday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 14, Lowry boy’s soccer faced off against Spring Creek and Dayton respectively. The Bucks came out victorious in both matches.

On Tuesday the Bucks competed against the Spartans for the win. Although Spring Creek was the first to score, Lowry fullback Adrian Arenas came back with a goal on a cross pass from midfielder Anders Pace tying score 1-1. However, only four minutes later midfielder Andy Hernandez brought the Bucks into the lead off a penalty kick to the left corner.

In the second half, Lowry lost no time in bringing the heat as striker Gerardo Covarrubias slipped the ball past the Spring Creek goalie a mere seven minutes into the half. Covarrubias’ goal was followed only two minutes later with an additional goal from striker Jose Acevedo giving the Bucks a solid lead at 4-1.

All though there were many more attempts, Lowry scored only once more in the last half when Acevedo scored once again, leaving the final score at 5-1.

In Wednesday’s game, tensions ran high as Lowry battled with Dayton. Although the game started with the Bucks playing against the wind, Lowry fans witnessed a strong defense performance from fullbacks Jessie Pate and Jacob Gibson.

An impressive offensive performance was given by Pace who had three shots on goal in the first ten minutes, however, it was a penalty kick by Alejandro Villagomez that produced the first goal for the Bucks.

Midfielder Dusty Kraft was the next to score 20 minutes into the half. Kraft scored off an assist from Villagomez. Even though the Bucks’ defense put forth a spectacular effort, Dayton managed to score once, with only three minutes left in the first half.

However, Lowry retaliated five minutes into the second half when Pace dribbled the ball down the field and put a shot right past the Dayton goalkeeper to bring the score to 3-1.

Shortly after this a skirmish broke out on the field when a Dayton midfielder mouthed off to the Lowry offense. Although Lowry’s Acevedo narrowly avoided a yellow card, Dayton’s player was not so lucky and was sent off the field.

Despite the scuffle, the Bucks were able to keep their heads and striker Nestor Ruiz scored 16 minutes into the half off a cross pass from Covarrubias. This looked to be the last goal for the Bucks. However a foul on Lowry midfielder Alex Villagomez generated a penalty kick which Villagomez slipped past the Dayton keeper.

These two games were vital to the Bucks’ placement in the upcoming Zone tournament.

“The guys are really aware now about where they are and what they have to do,” said coach Steve Swanson, “So they’re pushing really hard.”

Lowry will face off next against Fernley here at home on October 20.
