DNA testing has proved Lowry teacher and coach Austin Mayo is indeed adopted and may be a leprechaun.
Many of the students know Mayo as a teacher, but some are not aware he has a younger sibling, Maddie Mayo, who is currently a senior. There has been a lot of controversy about Mayo’s luscious red hair and Maddie’s dull brown hair.
One question everyone has been asking is where did Mr. Mayo get his beautiful red hair?
“I don’t know where he got his red hair, it certainly wasn’t from either of our parents,” said Maddie.
The history of red hair originates in Scotland or Ireland which can mean one of two things, Mayo is adopted or a leprechaun. Most people know that leprechauns are very mean and protective, Mayo is neither of those, so the only possible answer is he is adopted.
“I can assure you that I am not adopted. I fit in with my family perfectly,” said Mr. Mayo.
Maddie seemed a little unsure that Mr. Mayo is in fact her brother when researchers started asking her questions she couldn’t answer.
“The last time I checked my brother didn’t have any other parents, but I am not entirely sure,” said Maddie.
Many students have been noticing that Maddie and Austin don’t act alike. Brothers and sisters usually act similar but there is that rare case when they don’t.
“I was becoming concerned for my brother, he started acting like I wasn’t important to him, so I took immediate action and had him tested to actually see if the rumors of him being adopted were true,” said Maddie.
Maddie and Mr. Mayo are several years apart. Mr. Mayo grew up taking care of Maddie and taught her right from wrong.
“My whole life I have known him as my brother if he in fact does have different parents I don’t know what I will do with my life,” added Maddie.
After extensive research through Ancestory.com and other sources, researchers have found the answer to Lowry’s biggest question Mayo is adopted. The reason for his red hair was a recessive trait that his ancestors had and that only he possesses. The trait came from a different bloodline which proves even more that Mayo is adopted. After finding out that he was adopted Mayo tracked down his birth parents. Apparently Mr. Mayo is the sole heir to the vast Lucky Charms fortune.
