With the start of a new basketball season comes a brand new freshman team that will have the opportunity to represent Lowry Basketball for the first time. Coach Mayo is very excited to work with these incoming freshmen and give them a chance to do well while representing Lowry.
“I think it’s going to be a really good year. We’ve got kids that have played basketball for most of their lives and they’ve still got a lot to learn and we also have some kids that haven’t really played organized basketball before,” said coach Austin Mayo.
There are a lot of things that Mayo is excited to work with the team on. He says that it is extremely important to teach the boys how to work as a team and how to really come together and support each other, win or lose. He’s also thrilled to be able to teach the kids who are new to organized basketball the ways of the court and how to really understand what to do with an actual team.
“What I’m really looking forward to is by the end of the year we really come together as a group and everyone can say that they’re a team,” Mayo added.
Their first game was up against Reno on Saturday, November 28 against Reno. They got a victory for their very first game, and the team hopes to get many more.
