Gamernut: Spring gaming releases

By Liam Gallups Posted April 15, 2015

HEYO EVERYBODY! Sorry about the yelling, I’m just so EXCITED for spring! We have a few games to cover before E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Exposition) happens in June so I guess it’s time I get to the point and tell you loyal gamers what’s coming. Ready? LET’S GO!

Fans of the classic first-person shooter franchise “Wolfenstein” have much to, ahem… howl about on May 5. “Wolfenstein: The Old Blood” will be available then for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This action-adventure game takes place at the infamous Castle Wolfenstein, where players will help William “B.J.” Blazkowicz steal the coordinates to the compound of General Wilhelm “Deathshead” Strasse. Also, it seems that an ancient evil is rearing its ugly head. Those looking for a Nazi shooting fix now can download “Super Wolfenstein HD” for free on their PCs. This is a hilarious recreation of “Wolfenstein 3D” featuring wacky physics and was created for the “Indies vs PewDiePie” game jam. Check it out for a gut-busting good time.

Looking to get back to the hey-day of classic “MegaMan”? The series creator, Keiji Inafune, is delivering a spiritual successor called “Mighty No. 9”, available for download on PC, 3DS, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U. That’s right, all of them. This crowd-funded masterpiece features classic running and gunning gameplay, new superpowers, an engaging storyline, multiplayer, an animated series coming soon, and SO MUCH MORE! This is a game that is high on my anticipation list for its callback to classic games of yore.

“Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster” is coming, and fans of the acclaimed JRPG (Japanese Role-playing game) series should rejoice. On PS4 come May 12, players can play this HD remastered edition of the popular game. It features the same story, characters, and gameplay, but also a graphical and audio overhaul. There are also new ways to play, including a system where you can command NPC (non-player character) monsters as party members. Worth a pick-up on Next Gen consoles.

Fans of Shonen Jump anime like “Dragon Ball”, “Naruto”, “One Piece”, “Bleach”, and “Fist of the North Star” will get an amazing love letter this summer with a fighting game called “J-Stars Victory VS+” on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita. This game combines characters from the series above and other Shonen Jump series and pits them against each other in madcap action-packed battles. This release comes with an arcade mode you can play with your friends. Pick this up if you’re a fighting game fan or an anime aficionado (such as myself).

Like movies? Well here’s a movie based on a video game. Sometime in mid-2015, “Ratchet and Clank” will be coming to the big screen. This movie recounts the tale told in the first game, as well as adding a couple of extra details. The adventures of the iconic “Lombax” and his robot companion will feature the entire voice cast from the original series as well as sound assets from the games themselves. Check this movie out as a sort of animated celebration of the popular PlayStation game.

You may have been wondering about “Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain”, so here’s the skinny on the release date. You need to wait until September 1 and probably drop this once since the date is so far away to get it on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Then even further, on September 15, to get it on PC. True, this isn’t exactly a spring release, but this is a high-profile game either way. You play as Big Boss, and your goal is to stealthily make your way toward your objectives. You are a mercenary, and you need to assassinate targets, rescue hostages from POW camps, and build a home base. This open-world epic features a real-time Day-And-Night cycle that affects gameplay significantly. You can pick up this title when it releases and revel in its superior graphics.

Like racing games? Well, “Project CARS” is for you. This is a MASSIVE online racing sim. The finished product is intended to represent a realistic driving simulation. There are supposedly going to be 67 cars to choose from. This game will be released in mid-May for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

More content was released about “Halo 5: Guardians”, the upcoming sequel to the celebrated first- person shooter franchise. No set release date aside from Quarter 3 2015, but we do know it is an Xbox One exclusive. The mysterious new character? He’s called Spartan Locke, and he is indeed playable. You also get Chief (obviously), and a fan-favorite character, The Arbiter. Also, the legendary Steven Spielberg is working on a live-action TV series to air in conjunction with the game and may air on Showtime.

This is all I got for you guys right now. This is quite a bit to look forward to and I hope you are also looking forward to these titles too. So, until next time loyal gamer, this has been your local Gamernut. Sayonara.
