The JV boys’ basketball team’s season tipped off last weekend at a tournament in Lovelock. They pulled out an amazing victory in the championship game with a buzzer-beater. The boys are off to a fantastic start and hope to keep the wins coming as the season goes on.

The Bucks breezed through the first two games against Lovelock and Silver Stage. They played a tough opponent in the championship, the Fernley Vaqueros. The game was close for the full 32 minutes. It came down to the very last second, with the score tied 46-46. Sophomore Oscar Juanes stepped up big and knocked down the 3-point buzzer beater to win the game 49-46.

Juanes was very pleased with his team’s performance in the tournament.

“There are new people on the team, and we handled the pressure and the intensity to get the wins,” said Juanes. “Our selflessness really contributed to us getting the wins.”

Juanes also commented on how he hopes to see his team progress moving forward in the season.

“Our team chemistry is something I hope to see improve throughout the season,” said Juanes.

The boys will head to Fallon on Tuesday for their first league game of the season.
