JV volleyball closes out the season with new memories

The JV volleyball team learned and grew this season but fell short of going over 9-16. There was a variety of players in different age groups. As the season went on the team grew together and built a family. For Josie Jenkins, it was her second year playing volleyball.

“My volleyball season went really well and I think I really bonded with my teammates, and I really improved myself as an individual athlete,” said Jenkins.

While Jenkins enjoyed continuing with her known teammates, freshman Emelia Mentaberry had to start from new, learning with new teammates on the JV team.

“Being a freshman on JV was a little weird at first because I didn’t know anyone really on the team,” said Mentaberry. “But once we started playing together we bonded and became great friends.”

Coach Dacey Jensen thoroughly enjoyed the versatility of this year’s team and watching each athlete grow individually.

“They grew both in their skills and overall volleyball knowledge, which allowed the girls to take frequent rotation changes in stride,” said Coach Jensen. “They learned how to be good teammates and good ambassadors of the game of volleyball on and off the court.”

In addition to coaching the athletes to better themselves, Jensen watched the teammates blossom and reveal more about themselves.

“Many personalities not seen during the day were shown at practices and during fun team builders,” said Jensen. “Each girl from the JV strived to become a better athlete every day and is looking forward to next season.”

Sophomore Alana Deputy was grateful to have Jensen as a coach and learned how to be better both in and out of the court.

“Mrs. Jensen has taught me how to be a better player, a better teammate, and overall be better for myself, from teaching me how to get a perfect hit or a perfect pass to how to have some confidence on the court and let my mistakes roll off my back while remembering to make the next better than the last,” said Deputy.
