Student-Athlete of the Issue: Allison Green

Lowry has had many student-athletes with bright and successful futures. One of many is Allison Green. She has worked hard throughout high school to be a great athlete in volleyball and basketball.

Last year her basketball team won the state championship, and she also played softball.

“I feel very happy,” said Green.“This is the first time I’ve ever been picked for something like this, so I’m very excited.”

When feeling down, Green has reminders to keep herself motivated to keep pushing to be a better athlete.

“When I feel like I or my team is down, I tell myself ‘You earned this, you worked hard to get here, so you just gotta keep pushing’,” said Green.

Green’s parents, specifically her mother, heavily encouraged her to join volleyball and basketball. A main component of Green’s motivation was the dream of following in her mom’s footsteps.

“My mom was a really big aspect in that,” said Green. “She played volleyball and basketball in high school, which is why I’m a two-sport athlete. I wanted to make her happy and follow in her footsteps.”

Another motivator in Green’s athletic journey is her best friend Olivia Espinola, her fellow teammate on the Lowry volleyball team.

“My favorite teammate would have to be Olivia Espinola, we’ve been on all of our sports teams together, other than basketball,” said Green. “and she always knows how to pick me up when I don’t feel motivated to practice.”

Allison Green has worked consistently to uphold her athletic ability and it shows. She is a very important member of the volleyball and basketball teams and a key component in their wins.

Varsity volleyball coach Skylar Estes explained Green’s behavior and work ethic.

“Allie is a great leader for our team.  She works hard on the court and always has a great attitude,” said Estes. “ Because of her swings and bog clocks, we have been successful at the net.”

Coach Estes also stated her ability to work well with a team.

“Allison is always cheering on her teammates whether she is on the court or from the bench,” said Estes. “We would be lacking in many areas if Ally was not a part of our team.”
