JV volleyball finishes season with friendships and skills

The JV volleyball team came to the end of their season, and in the end, gained new mindsets and abilities from the sport. Their coach, Cassandra Jenkins, was impressed with the end result of the season and their close connections with one another.

“I was proud of the fact that they never gave up,” said Jenkins. “Throughout the season I saw some good improvements in the majority of the girls within their fundamentals.”

The girls improved on their abilities they also grew as a team. All of them understand the capabilities of playing as a team when it’s game time.

“Hits started getting harder as a few of them began to find their timing on their approach and were starting to get on top of the ball,” said Jenkins. “The team’s overall passing showed much improvement making it easier to stay in the system during a rally. All in all, definitely a season of growth in skills and mindset.”

Jenkins saw the growth of the girls throughout the season. All of their abilities have improved from their time on the freshman team all the way to the JV level and this is just the start of their journey. Athena Chiaratti was a prime example of the season. Even though a player is confident in one position, she faces the opportunity to obtain another.

“My freshman year I played middle, and when I moved up to JV I was changed to opposite and I realized how easier it was to play,” said Chiaratti. “Jenkins has been beneficial when it came to learning a new position.”

Jenkins as well as the varsity coach has helped all of the girls grow in the sport and taught them the responsibility of their talents and what they have to bring to the court. Tariana Weatherspoon brought her positivity from the year before and has been able to push through all the hardships a team faces and make the best out of it.

“We keep each other positive, even through the hard times in games, even when we’re frustrated with each other,” said Weatherspoon. “I feel like I improved, mainly by keeping my teammates happy because I’m able to bring the energy to the team when we needed it most. I  noticed I am a positive person and when I’m mad I am able to change up my attitude to keep the team focused.”

The team had a record of 3-8.
