Varsity boy’s soccer takes one last shot

This year’s soccer season has been through its ups and downs with the boy’s varsity team, whether it be the way they played or one of their teammates getting hurt.

Juan Alvarez’s season went well for him but he believes the season has ended tragically.

“I say the worst part would be losing our players for a while at the beginning of the season, which gave us a disadvantage starting off and at the end very tragically,”  Alvarez said.

The season for Jovanny Cuevas went better, he worked hard every day at practice for his team.

“As for the team, I would say we work every practice to get to where we are now,” Cuevas said.

The varsity coach Cristina Cuevas believes that they had a good season, even making some players better students.

“We ended the season 6-5-3 and with many changes to the soccer program I am happy with the results,” said coach Cuevas. “I am more proud of the fact that the boys have also become better academically as well as their attendance in school.”

The best part of the season for many players was when they tied with the Elko team.

“The best part would be when we tied Elko the hardest team in our league which inspired and motivated us as a team to keep going and play the rest of our games for Roy,” Alvarez said.

Many players credit their success to their coach, who helped them get to where they are now.

“Our season started not so good but I believe over time we started improving and getting better thanks to our coach,” said Alvarez.
