Lowry XC running toward a state championship

By Calvin Connors Posted September 9, 2011

Lowry cross country reloads this season with new leaders and new hopefuls to capture a state championship.

After falling short of a state championship last season, Lowry XC has a new mindset and a new group of captains that are pushing the whole team to become the best group of runners in the whole state. Joey Flanders, Brady Riley, Chase Estes, Riata Kull, and Mckenzie Mclintick are taking on the roles of being the team leaders this season. Joey Flanders, Chase Estes, and Brady Riley are not only returners from last season, but the three of them made it to state last season.

“We are looking a lot stronger this year compared to last year,” said junior Joey Flanders.

The Bucks lost some great runners due to graduation, but like any great cross country team Lowry has had in the past, they have to cope with what they have and strive for success. The Lowry cross country team has always been filled with great runners. This season they have fewer athletes than in years past, but coach Don Lucas will have the team ready for any obstacles that the team will have to overcome.

Jancy Ulch ran cross country for the Bucks last season and she says that the cross country team is improving from last year and is looking strong for the start of the season.

Lowry hits the ground running in Douglas on Friday, September 2, where they will test their skills against some of the greatest runners in northern Nevada.
