This week’s standout student for Mr. Andrew Meyer’s CTE program is none other than Shane Gilliland. Known for his dedication and talent in the welding booths, Gilliland has earned praise not just for his skills but for his independent work ethic.
Meyer describes Gilliland as a “savage” in the shop, highlighting his ability to excel in technical tasks.
“He works hard, uses his time wisely, and is very talented,” Meyer said.
“He’s one of those students you can always count on to get the job done, no matter the challenge.”
When asked about Gilliland’s greatest strengths, Meyer pointed to his proficiency in TIG welding and even complimented his public speaking abilities—skills that demonstrate both precision and confidence.
“He’s not just skilled with the welder; he can also communicate clearly and confidently, which is an important asset in any trade,” Meyer said.
Although Gilliland is often described as a “lone wolf,” his focus and drive have pushed him to excel in the welding program. With four years of experience, Gilliland’s hard work has already earned recognition. Last year, he competed in SkillsUSA, placing ninth in the state, an accomplishment that solidified his passion for the trade.
Looking ahead, Gilliland plans to take his talents to Montana State University, where he’ll pursue welding as a career. When asked why he chose this path, his answer was simple.
“I just enjoy it. I want to do something I enjoy,” said Gilliland.
Whether it’s controlling the heat with precision or crafting molten metal into something functional and lasting, Gilliland’s focus and skillset make him a shining example of the opportunities available in CTE.
“It’s not just about being good at it, it’s about loving what you do every day,” said Gilliland.
With his dedication and natural talent, there’s no doubt he’s welding together a bright future.
