Review: YouTube’s Internet personality ‘Markiplier’

Youtube is known for its many web personalities and the content they have been publishing daily for over 11 years. Many genres are available for audiences all across the world and one YouTuber that covers a wide variety of games relating to horror, comedy, and many others is “Markiplier.” Mark Edward Fischbach who goes by his alias “Markiplier” has been a YouTuber since May 26, 2012. Markiplier is prominently known for his “Let’s Plays” which are videos related to gaming that are a live narration from the commentator themself as they are playing the game. Mark’s channel consists of a wide venue of game genres, comedy sketch videos, and many random yet unique things. Mark is also known for his entertainment background, a musical career with his own outro music tracks, and his acting career he never got a job in but still displays on his channel in live-action videos.

Fischbach was born in O’ahu, Hawaii on a military base. His family owned a house in the woods that Mark and his brother would play in and bond with each other. At that time of his life, Mark’s family was going through rough times with his dad and mom fighting which eventually led to them getting a divorce. Having little funds to support themselves, Mark’s family lost the house and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio when his dad retired from the military. Mark was able to save his computer which he grew attached to and played games that would later lead to his YouTube career. When Mark was 17, his father, after a long battle with cancer, passed away which led Mark to become very depressed changing his life forever. Mark took it upon himself to study biomedical engineering at the University of Cincinnati but later dropped out to pursue his Youtube career. Early on in his career Mark created comedy sketch videos that began to boost his popularity along with indie horror games becoming common on his channel. Mark has a very special place in his heart for his fans and dedicates himself for changing the world for the better with many livestreams going towards charities all over the world and preaching a message to spread kindness to everyone. According to cancer research.org, Markiplier has raised a total of over $1 million across the many livestreams he has done for cancer research, the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, and for Child’s Play.

“Markiplier” as of November 2016, has over 15.4 million subscribers and his channel is growing at a fast pace.
