Matthew Casalez participates in multiple sports seasons. Casalez plays varsity football and varsity basketball. After high school, Casalez plans on continuing his education leaving his sports behind.
Casalez focuses on and enjoys basketball. He has played the sport since he was little, and it has always been his favorite. Casalez has played basketball throughout his entire life starting in kindergarten, participating in travel ball, and his school sports seasons.
“I grew up playing basketball, and watching it on TV,” said Casalez. “It’s always been my favorite sport.”
During Casalez’s sports seasons, he works hard on his school work while juggling sports.
“I try my best to just stay on task in my classes and get all my work done to save the amount of time I have to spend on homework after my sport,” said Casalez.
Brandon Eastman, the new boy’s basketball varsity head coach, is inspired by Casalez’s love for basketball.
“He is passionate and competitive and I really think he goes about doing things the right way on and off the court,” said Eastman.
Casalez is a hard-working athlete who is always there to improve and learn more each day.
“He is someone who is always wanting to learn something new and get better in certain areas of his game,” said Eastman.
Casalez’s time and work ethic show as he makes his coaches and teammates proud with his improvement and attitude.
“I have seen him grow tremendously with his leadership and maintaining a positive attitude no matter the situation,” said Eastman.
Some of his friends are attending TMCC and he is interested in one of their programs.
“I’m looking into becoming an electrician,” said Casalez. “If I don’t find that interesting I’m looking to try law enforcement.”
Casalez found his love for electrical while participating in construction during his high school experience.
“It can make a good career,” said Casalez. “I did some electrical in Bernadi’s and the stuff he taught was enjoyable.”
Casalez looks forward to beginning a new life out of high school while still going to school with his high school friends.
