Student-Athlete of the Week: Hailey Fernandez

This week’s Student-Athlete of the Week is Hailey Fernandez, a sophomore forward for Lowry’s varsity girls soccer team.

Coach Jen Partee chose Fernandez for being able to step up onto a varsity team as a sophomore, and for all that she has overcome this season.

“She came into the season with a broken collarbone, but worked hard to overcome her injury and fears of being injured again,” said Partee.

Partee also talked about how well she came out and played in their last two games of the season.

“She played phenomenally against both teams and did an outstanding job,” said Partee. “She’s also not just a good player, but also a good person and a good teammate, and she also comes with that ‘can-do’ attitude,” added Partee.

Fernandez mentioned the season ending quickly, but the growth the team had as a whole.

“The season ended earlier than we wanted,” said Fernandez. “However, we grew as a team and played some of our best games at the end of the season. I grew as a varsity player with the help of not only my coaches but also my teammates.”

Fernandez also talked about the missed playoff opportunity and the support of the team.

“We could have made it to the playoffs,” said Fernandez. “Missing the opportunity by one place was definitely a hard position to finish in. As a team, we got along very well, we supported each other on and off the field, and we grew together throughout the season.”

The Lady Bucks finished off the season with 4 wins, 9 losses, and 3 ties.
