This week’s Student-Athlete of the Week, selected by coach John Brooks, is Ryan Johnson, a junior wrestler for varsity wrestling.
Coach Brooks selected Ryan as he described him as ”an excellent choice”.
“As a Junior, he has put in three years of hard work, and it is starting to pay off for him. At the beginning of this season, he was having a hard time finding a spot in the varsity line-up,” said Brooks.
Brooks also explained Johnson’s strive to get into a weight class and his contribution to the team.
“Through hard work and sacrifice, he was able to bring his weight down and secure a spot at the 145-pound class, which made the team much tougher,” said Brooks.
Coach Brooks, with Ryan going to state
“My hope is that he has a strong finish at the State Tournament this weekend in Spanish Springs. He has earned it,” said Brooks.
Going 3-1 at regionals, Johnson gives his view on how excited he is and his determination to take down the competition.
“To be honest, I’m pretty excited to go to state and really show them my progress as a wrestler from the very start,“ said Johnson.
With Lowry’s boys looking forward to state, Johnson tells of how the team has put in hard work to enjoy wrestling overall.
“The team has grown a lot and they’re very dedicated to get out there and get the job done and overall have fun doing it and learn a lot,“ said Johnson.
Johnson, along with other varsity wrestlers, will be heading to state on February 10 at Spanish Springs High School.
